32 International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami: Piedras Preciosas Presented by Teatro Avante

AL FIN Y AL CABO, Málaga, SPAIN

PIEDRAS PRECIOSAS (Precious Stones) by Pablo Díaz, directed by Andrea Chacón Álvarez and Raúl Mancilla

In the 1960s, artist Jean Cocteau spent several years in Marbella, enjoying its climate, its beaches and its hectic social life. Piedras preciosas imagines the relationship between Cocteau and Manuel, a young flamenco dancer, showing their mutual learning and the special affection they professed for one another. Inspired by the testimony of Marbella townspeople, the play tells a story of friendship and generosity that tends to erase the boundary between reality and fiction, exposing the censorial morality of the time, which in some ways persists to this day.
