Albert Herring Opera

Albert Herring Opera

BY BENJAMIN BRITTEN

An English comic chamber opera, Albert Herring is the “coming-of-age” story of a hapless antihero in a town full of colorful characters preparing for the town’s May Day festivities. An outcast with an overbearing mother, Herring is embarrassingly crowned the King of May but squanders his winnings after two rebellious young lovers spike his punch. Benjamin Britten paints a vivid musical picture in this adaptation of a story by French author Guy de Maupassant. Performed in English.
