The Bald Soprano was the first work of Eugene Ionesco, father of the Theater of the Absurd, and it has been interpreted as a satirical attack against social stereotypes and the bourgeois family of the time. By creating an atmosphere where the characters are physically close but cannot communicate effectively, the main theme is clear, the words, instead of revealing and facilitating communication, obscure and cloud it; and man is a misunderstood and incomprehensible being.
