The play is set in a hospital. The painter, the main character, has fallen into a state of depression after losing her daughter to an illness and not having enough money to pay for the fuel needed to survive the New Jersey winter. The psychiatrist in charge of the case realizes that art is vital in this artist's life and may be the only thing that can save her from her fatal state. Will art be able to put this painter's life back on track? This is the theme of the play: art as a tool for salvation.
