The Koubek Center presents FLAMENCO EN DOS ORILLAS

The Koubek Center will bring an intimate and experimental Flamenco performance featuring the new generation of artists who are paving the way for a new way of understanding and seeing Flamenco. We present artists from Spain who can experiment in an intimate space and offer our audiences the same experience of an authentic tablao. Flamenco En Dos Orillas is an artistic residency featuring the unique collaboration between artists from Spain and local artists from Miami who will work together for a week to create a new work to be presented to the community as a public event. Internationally recognized award-winning Antonio Rey, one of the most representative figures of the current flamenco guitar scene will be joined by multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer Munir Hossn and his rich mix between Brazil, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; one of the most sought out Cuban percussionist Roberto Vizcaino Jr; and Afro-Cuban lead vocalist Lenia Diaz.

West-Eastern Divan Ensemble Presented by Adrienne Arsht Center

RAVEL Sonata for Violin and Violincello DVOŘÁK Terzetto in C major for Two Violins and Viola, Op. 74 HINDEMITH Trauermusik for Strings ENESCU Octet for Strings in C major, Op. 7 The West-Eastern Divan Ensemble is the chamber-size spinoff of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, a groundbreaking project founded in 1999 by Edward Said, the late Palestinian American writer and musician, and Daniel Barenboim, the acclaimed Israeli conductor and pianist. Grouping together Arab and Israeli musicians in an effort to promote peace and understanding, the orchestra crosses political, cultural and geographical boundaries while performing works by classical giants at concert venues worldwide. The Divan Ensemble features members of the orchestra and is led by its concertmaster, Michael Barenboim, son of Daniel Barenboim. The ensemble’s first American tour took place in February and March 2020 and included a performance at the Arsht Center. Returning to Miami, the ensemble continues the humanistic mission of its larger counterpart, while offering audiences an opportunity to enjoy intimate works by classical music’s greatest composers. One hour prior to this performance, join us in the Peacock Education Center for Classical Conversations, an exciting, behind-the scenes look at this performance led by Dr. Dorothy Hindman.

Las Migas: "Libres" Presented By Centro Cultural Español Miami (CCEM) and MDCA

On May 20, 2023, Las Migas will present their latest work “Libres”, winner of a Latin Grammy for Best Flamenco Album in 2022. Eighteen years ago, four women joined forces and talents to rebirth themselves as Las Migas – a group that would find its way to the top of the international flamenco music scene. Together, the passionate Gypsy voice of Carolina “La Chispa” Fernández, the violin of Laura Pacios, and the guitars of Marta Robles and Alicia Grillo create a world of modern flamenco accessible to all – with all the aromas of earth, air, fire and water, and messages to the soul that hit like waves of freedom, strength, and love.
