COMMUNITY VISIONING SESSION FOR HISTORIC VIRGINIA KEY BEACH PARK Join Chairwoman Christine King for a community visioning session to discuss the planning process in establishing a civil rights museum park on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, 4020 Virginia Beach Drive (Park Office), Miami, FL 33149 at 10:00AM. The community meeting has been organized in an effort to move the park’s projects forward with the support of Miami Dade County, the City of Miami, the Board of Trustees, and most importantly members of the community who care about the park’s preservation.

Koubek Center and Fundacion Cuatrogatos present Picnic de Libros Picnic de Libros is a bilingual, family day program featuring storytelling, theatre, music, arts and crafts, dance, and picnic baskets full of books, for families to enjoy together. The event is free, and its main goal is to expose kids to the richness and variety of the cultural traditions in our diverse community. These gatherings will tickle children’s curiosity while using the power of stories to bring people together, promoting literacy, and nurturing the next generation of engaged world citizens. We want to encourage kids to read and develop a passion for books and literature. Culminating each day, we will serve a special picnic with blankets on the lawn and baskets full of books, in both Spanish and English The upcoming Picnic will feature: • Shekere workshop by Renee Vazquez. • Creative Stage Productions returns with their fun characters. • Storytelling with Nitsy Grau & Leopoldo Morales from Troop of Actors. • Flamenco Class for kids by Irene “La chiqui” Lozano.

The 40th edition of the nation’s largest and finest literary gathering, Miami Book Fair at Miami Dade College, will take place November 12-19, at the college’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. The famed Street Fair runs Friday, November 17, through Sunday, November 19, and will host close to 500 presenting authors, as well as 150 exhibitors from around the world.

The Deering Estate, in collaboration with the Antique Automotive Club of America – South Florida Region, will host the 11th annual Vintage Auto Show on Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests can enjoy a relaxing day outdoors as they stroll down memory lane. Car enthusiasts of all ages can enjoy a variety of vintage cars displayed on the historic grounds of the Deering Estate. As a salute to Charles Deering, first chairman of the International Harvester Company, our 1950 International Harvester Truck will also be on display. The Harvester Truck, which was donated to the Deering Estate Foundation, was purchased brand new in Chicago by Marion Deering McCormick, Charles Deering’s daughter. After Mrs. McCormick passed away in 1965, the truck passed to her son and was maintained by the McCormick family until they donated it to the Deering Estate Foundation. Please note that the historic house museums will be closed and not accessible at this event.

The Art of Magic is a multi-media, interactive presentation illustrating the various types of the Magical Arts. Attendees will learn about some of the Great Magicians that excel in each category, They will see short videos clips that demonstrate Grand Illusion & Parlor Magic. They will also be treated to LIVE performances of Mentalism and Psychic phenomenon as well as Close-up, Sleight of Hand miracles right before their very eyes! The Lecturers' and Performers are; Alexander Beresford, as a Mentalist and Psychic Entertainer Alexander has performed throughout the United States and England. Corporate Clients include the Discovery Channel, MGM, BBC to name a few. He is proud to have been selected to perform for President Jimmy Carter & family, as well as the United States Secret Service and many more! Rick Alan is a performer, mentor & producer of magic shows and conventions. As a performer he specializes in strolling/close-up magic. Corporate Clients include Dave & Buster's, Toyota, Ford, Subaru, Orange Bowl Committee, Ocean Reef Club & Coconut Grove Yacht Club to name a few. In 2015, after five years of mentoring, one of his students won the IBM Junior World Championship in Close-up Magic. Rick has produced shows for Jackson Memorial Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital, Nova University & the Museum of Science. Rick has produced "Magic on the Beach" for fourteen years. This was an annual magic convention that the NEW TIMES declared, "THE BEST CONVENTION IN MIAMI!"

Free Multi Media Live lecture and Performance on the History of the Art of Magic, from 2700 BC to Present. Presenters Rick Alan & Alexander Beresford discuss the first magic trick ever recorded. Then show video of David Copperfield performing his version of the same trick. Via a power point presentation combined with video and ending in a live performance, the audience will not only learn the History of one of the Oldest of the Performing Arts, but they will see a Live Performance or Classic Magic as well as some new effects.
