Amal By: The Combat Hippies Presented by MDCA

AMAL delves into the impact of war for both combatants and noncombatants as people of color, and shares experiences of veterans’ adjustment to life after war, as well as those of refugees and asylum seekers from war-torn countries. The piece also explores the search for meaning, purpose, and identity through enlisting in the military, specifically focusing on Puerto Rico’s cultural and military heritage. Direction and Dramaturgy by award winning theater artist Teo Castellanos.

You can’t stop the beat of this BIG and BOLD musical about one plus-sized girl's inspiring dream to dance, fall in love and take a stand to integrate American television, all while not dentin’ her ‘do! The winner of eight Tony Awards and a recent made for TV movie hit, this 70 minute version is a family-friendly musical loaded with laughter, dazzling dance numbers and popular toe-tapping tunes. Join our cast and crew of fifty students and faculty for a fun and lighthearted show that shines a light on the important message of desegregation and acceptance for all.

Memphis: the Musical Presented by Actors' Playhouse

nspired by actual events, Memphis follows the story of Huey Calhoun, a fictitious white radio DJ who was one of the first to play black music in 1950s Memphis, and Felicia, a black club singer who is hoping for her big break. Filled with laughter, soaring emotion, forbidden love, irresistible dancing, rhythm and blues, and roof raising rock ‘n’ roll, this winner of four Tony Awards including “Best Musical” features a Tony-winning book by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change), and a Tony-winning original score with music by David Bryan, one of the founding members of Bon Jovi.
