In September, the Arsht Center launched the Heritage Project, an artistic online salon series. The first salon, Songs of Freedom, explored the role of music in social justice movements. The panelists deconstructed songs that have served as songs of freedom or songs of protest, and have been used as coded language in various struggles for freedom.
We close out the Heritage Project series with a bonus episode - Songs of Freedom THE REMIX. This salon will pick up where we left off in September by focusing on protest songs from the Civil Rights Era through the growth and evolution of hip-hop. This discussion will capture the spirit of a Harlem Renaissance salon, where Black leaders, intellectuals, activists, artists, educators and business owners came together to discuss matters impacting the Black community.
