MIGF 2024 GuitART Festival Lecture & Workshop : Anatolian Ensemble - Traditional Turkish and Sufi Music

The 2024 Miami International GuitART Festival presents a lecture on Traditional Turkish and Sufi Music. Anatolian Ensemble members, Turkish kemeche virtuoso Neva Ozgen and cellist Yelda Ozgen will demonstrate the major modes (makams) in traditional Turkish and Sufi music through preludes or interludes (taksims). They will discuss the role of improvisation in traditional Turkish music, both from compositional and performance perspectives. MIGF 2024 GuitART Festival Lecture & Workshop : Cihat Aşkın - Turkish Makam System

The 2024 Miami International GuitART Festival presents a lecture by Cihat Aşkın at the WPAC Recital Hall. In this lecture, Dr. Aşkın will discuss rhythmic (usûl) and modal (makam) systems in traditional Turkish music (including folk, classical, and sufi music), then, review the basic instrumental and vocal forms.
