Gregory Porter Presented by Olympia Theater

Known for his warm baritone vocals, Gregory Porter rose to acclaim in the 2010s with his earthy, cross-pollinated brand of jazz, soul, and gospel. A gifted singer of standards as well as more contemporary soul material, Porter has earned favorable comparisons to his idols Nat King Cole, Donny Hathaway, and Stevie Wonder. He announced his arrival by picking up a Grammy nomination for his 2010 debut, Water. After signing to Blue Note, he gained even wider notice for his third album, 2013's Liquid Spirit, which hit number two on the jazz charts, and won the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Although his original songs are his main focus, Porter often returns to his roots, such as on his 2017 tribute album Nat King Cole & Me. Paying tribute to the artist who had been most influential on his own music, Nat King Cole & Me featured Porter's versions of some of Cole's most treasured classics, including "Smile" and "Mona Lisa." The concert album One Night Only: Live at the Royal Albert Hall arrived in 2018.

Jazz Roots: Ain't No Stoppin' the Blues Presented by Arsht Center

Ain't No Stoppin' the Blues promises an incredible night of jazz with two of America’s blues legends together on one stage! Multi-GRAMMY® Award winners Mavis Staples and the Charlie Musselwhite Band join forces in a special performance that seamlessly blends American jazz with rhythm and blues. Not many musicians can exist outside of a scene and genre, yet weave themselves into the fabric of soul, R&B, jazz, gospel, rock and blues the way Staples has for over six decades. In 2011 Staples won her first GRAMMY® Award in the category of Best Americana Album for You Are Not Alone. In addition to her many awards, in 2017 she was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Arts Awards in 2018. With an induction into the Blues Music Hall of Fame, thirty-five Blues Music Awards (including three wins in 2014), and eleven GRAMMY® nominations, American electric blues harmonica virtuoso and bandleader Musselwhite has truly earned legendary status as one of blues music’s most important artists. He has released over 25 albums, as well as appearing on albums by many other notable musicians including Bonnie Raitt, INXS, Tom Waits and The Blind Boys of Alabama, among others. Musselwhite recently teamed up with Ben Harper on "Get Up!" -- the long-time coming collaboration that took home the GRAMMY® for Best Blues Album in 2014.
