Contemporary Jewish Voices Presented by Seraphic Fire

The voices of today’s Jewish composers ring out in a program for a cappella choir conducted by Associate Conductor James K. Bass. Shirim L'yom Tov, a set of celebratory songs by Pulitzer-prize-winning composer Shulamit Ran, offers wisdom and inspiration. The contemporary sounds and thought-provoking music of Julia Wolfe, David Lang, and Moira Smiley examine the rich tapestry of the Jewish experience. This concert is about more than music: it’s an exploration of culture and connection.

Julio Montalvo Cuban Collective Presented by Centro Cultural Español (CCEMiami)

Latin Grammy Award-winner Julio Montalvo will perform with his big band project, the Julio Montalvo Collective, offering an extensive repertoire from Latin Jazz to Afro-Cuban music. An ensemble of 6 musicians will perform original pieces and a selection of Cuban, Brazilian, and Latin Jazz covers. Julio Montalvo Collective is the general name of the project that Montalvo defends as a soloist, a mixture of Afro-Cuban rhythms with the new trends of modern jazz, achieving a warm fusion of New Latin Jazz. His first two albums were nominated for the Cuba Disco Awards in the category of Best Jazz Album in 2010 & 2013. The formation can range from a quartet to an ensemble of 6 or more musicians, performing original pieces and a selection of Latin Jazz covers, Cuban and Brazilian music. In this concert, presented by the Spanish Cultural Center with the Miami-Dade County Auditorium, Montalvo focuses on Afro-Cuban music with touches of Latin jazz and gives us a tour of instrumental music and songs.
