La Gringa By Carmen Rivera A Miami premiere! Carmen Rivera's La Gringa is a poignant comedy about a young woman’s search for identity. Maria Elena Garcia visits her family in Puerto Rico during the Christmas holidays and plans to connect with her homeland. Although this is her first trip to Puerto Rico, she has an intense love for the island. She even majored in Puerto Rican studies in college. Once Maria is in Puerto Rico, she realizes that Puerto Rico does not welcome her with open arms. The majority of Puerto Ricans on the island consider her an American — a gringa — and Maria considers this a betrayal. If she’s a Puerto Rican in the United States and an American in Puerto Rico, Maria concludes that she is nobody everywhere. Her uncle, Manolo, teaches her that identity isn’t based on superficial and external definitions, but is an essence she has had all along in her heart. La Gringa is an immersive bilingual experience, featuring dialogue and captioning in English and Spanish.

This will be the regional premiere of Fasthorse’s shocking satire that “flips the bird” on one of America’s most prolific myths—the original thanksgiving meal. With provocative questions around erasure and authorship of history, this comedy asks how we proceed when steadfast assumptions are disrupted.

Dr. Seward has cut himself off from the rest of the world after losing his lover and friends to Dracula. He has been contacted by the Irish author Bram Stoker, who wishes to tell his story. Soon, a series of murders occur, very similar to the ones Seward fought to stop. The doctor must face demons both real and imagined to find the answers.

Koubek Center, in collaboration with Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator and Parris-Bailey Arts Inc., proudly presents “Yankee Bajan”, a play by Linda Parris-Bailey about the experience of an African American family in the U.S. with ancestral roots in Barbados. Through live performance and musical references from Brooklyn to Barbados, “Yankee Bajan” takes audiences on a journey as the family dreams of a Bajan past and a Barbadian future. The narrative centers around a family that leaves the United States to reconnect with their Bajan roots. It's a vivid portrayal of the expatriate experience, delivered with passionate live performances and musical references spanning from Brooklyn to Barbados. The play doesn't just present a journey across the ocean; it's a journey into the heart of what it means to belong.

In her new work Kanay Apuntes Americanos-, Roxana Barba investigates the ancestral Peruvian cosmovision, the cyclical character of time, and the European campaigns of cultural extraction in Peru. To reinterpret an archaeological excavation, the performers travel through time cleaning the material remains of an ancient civilization. This multi-sensory performance suggests a ritual of decolonization and transformation, comparing journeys to virtual landscapes, narrated in Quechua, with digitized travel books by 19th-century French explorers. Kanay Apuntes Americanos- es el nuevo trabajo de Roxana Barba, donde investiga la cosmovisión ancestral peruana y el tiempo cíclico, así como las campañas europeas de extracción cultural en el Perú. A modo de reinterpretar una excavación arqueológica, los performers viajan a través del tiempo para limpiar de arena los restos materiales de una civilización ancestral. Este performance multi-sensorial emerge como un ritual de descolonización y transformación, contrastando viajes a través de paisajes virtuales narrados en Quechua, con libros de viajes digitalizados de exploradores franceses del siglo XIX.
