HAMBRE. Una comedia de pícaros Presented by Centro Cultural Español (CCEMiami)
The Cultural Center of Spain in Miami (CCEMiami) and the Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away from Home Series, in collaboration with The Roxy Theater Group, present HAMBRE, a comedy that explores marginality in Baroque Spain through the poetry and picaresque literature of the Spanish Golden Age.
Drawing on excerpts from works such as La Pícara Justina, Lazarillo de Tormes, Rinconete y Cortadillo, and Don Quixote, as well as poems by major literary figures including Lope de Vega, Quevedo, Góngora, and others, this theatrical production offers a vivid portrayal of a hungry, irreverent, and cunning Spain, where words become the ultimate instrument of power. Written and directed by Eugenia Sancho, the production offers an intimate and distinctly contemporary staging by her company, Sensodrama. The cast features Betsy Rodríguez, Letty Carmona, Catalina Arenas, and Eugenia Sancho.
