VIVALDI’S GLORIA: A JOURNEY TO JOY Presented by Civic Chorale of Greater Miami

VIVALDI’S GLORIA: A JOURNEY TO JOY with the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami & the MDC Chamber Singers showcasing an 80+ voice choir anchored by the Draculean surround-sound of a pipe organ Sunday, April 7th St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 14260 Old Cutler Rd, Miami, FL 33158 https://www.civicchorale.info/tickets Exquisite choral works, cultivated over seven centuries in sacred spaces with vaulted ceilings and pipe organs, will envelope you with the rich vibrations emitted by the grandiose King of Instruments, the organ. A breathtaking musical journey promises to transport you from the depths of contrition to the heights of extasy. Experience a spiritual cleansing of the highest musical order! At the three-month mark of broken new year’s resolutions, spring presents the opportunity to expunge our souls from guilt. The sacred music of Lent and Eucharist offer musical audiences a rich auditory backdrop to express penitence and to beg for grace. In this concert, you will experience a powerful emotional voyage from grief to glory. We perform five pieces that give gravity to a journey that starts with remorse and ends with the blissful energy of Vivaldi’s Gloria. In the British sacred tradition, forgiveness from sins is sought both in Farrant’s 16th century a cappella motet, Lord, For Thy Tender Mercy's Sake and in Attwood’s 19th century psalm, Turn my Face from my Sins. In Howells’ 20th Century anthem, Like as the Hart Desireth the Waterbrooks, distress is expressed for war wreaking havoc on nature’s purity. In continental Europe, sacrifice is invoked in both Mozarts’ 18th Century chant, Ave Verum Corpus and in Aquinas’s 14th Century hymn, O Salutaris Hostia. These pieces both announce eternal joy in heaven & the start of summer on earth, when, at the feast of Corpus Christi, Vivaldi’s Gloria is also sung. After a five-piece musical journey of repentance, you will indulge in the happy pronouncement of Gloria. The pipe organ, masterfully commandeered by Matthew Steynor, will engulf you as the Chorale performs Vivaldi’s majestic twelve-section choral gem. By the end of the concert, your musical journey to overwhelming joy will be complete! ___________________ In fulfillment of CCGM’s commitment to bring high-quality choral music to residents across the Greater Miami area, the Chorale is partnering with this brand-s new outreach location to present this concert: Vivaldi’s Gloria Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 4 pm Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 3220 NW 7th Ave, Allapattah, FL 33127 $5 tickets available at the door

Frida Presented by Florida Grand Opera

Frida by ROBERT XAVIER RODRIGUEZ
Thursday, March 21 at 8PM
Performance takes place at Miami-Dade County Auditorium

Robert Xavier Rodríguez’s colorful score is a perfect match for the passionate art of the legendary painter Frida Kahlo. Although the artist was wracked by agonizing physical pain and caught up in a stormy marriage to Diego Rivera, the flame that fueled Kahlo’s art just kept burning and never turned to ash. She created fifty-five self-portraits. But no portrait of her is quite as revealing as the one in Rodríguez’s opera.

Turkuaz Presented by The Rhythm Foundation

Turkuaz at the North Beach Bandshell is presented by Live For Live Music in partnership with GMP Live and the Rhythm Foundation. Energetic splashes of funk, alternative, rock, R&B, and psychedelia color the music of Turkuaz. Balancing male-female harmonies, strutting guitars, wild horn arrangements, and interminable grooves, this spirit takes shape in the color donned by each respective member on stage nightly via larger-than-life performances. The Brooklyn-based nonet —Dave Brandwein [guitar, vocals], Taylor Shell [bass], Craig Brodhead [guitar, keys], Michelangelo Carubba [drums], Chris Brouwers [trumpet, keys], Greg Sanderson [tenor sax], Josh Schwartz [baritone sax, vocals], Sammi Garett [vocals], and Shira Elias [vocals]—ignite an explosion of energy punctuated by neon hues, deft musicality, and show-stopping sing-alongs on their fifth full-length album, Life In The City. The album, which includes co-production work from Jerry Harrison of The Talking Heads, sees the band stretch their sonic palette and cover new ground lyrically as they grapple with reality and get personal, finding the light in what can sometimes be a dark world. Yet even in the midst of serious subject matter creeping in on this album, the musicianship of all nine band members and the group’s upbeat, fun-loving sensibility still shines through to give Turkuaz fans the joyous sound they’ve come to know over the last several years.
