Macho Man XXI part of OUT IN THE TROPICS 2019 Presented by FUNDarte

FUNDarte presents Out In The Tropics 2019, a performing arts series featuring artists who approach issues of gender politics, sexuality, and LGBTQ identity.

Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, Out in the Tropics will present the premiere in Miami of Macho Man XXI, by Tania Pérez-Salas Dance Company (Mexico) on May 4th at 8.30p.m. & 5th at 3:00 p.m. at Mid-Stage at Miami Dade County Auditorium.

Ballet Hispánico, America’s leading Latino dance organization, has been bringing communities together to celebrate and explore Latino cultures through innovative dance productions, transformative dance training, and community engagement for nearly 50 years. Led by Artistic Director & CEO Eduardo Vilaro, the Company is a group of highly trained professionals who perform the works of Latino choreographers for audiences around the world.  Ballet Hispánico’s repertory explores the diversity of Latino cultures and brings innovative ways of experiencing and sharing a cultural dialogue.

The corrupting influence of power and the lurid underbelly of society might seem like dark and heavy themes for a dance performance. But coming from South Florida's leading contemporary company, Dance NOW! Miami, and in today's political climate, their newest evening promises to be another fascinating and forward-leaning one.

Paul Taylor Dance Company Presented by Broward Center for the Performing Arts

Blending natural movement with complex patterns and rhythms, Paul Taylor Dance Company performs its signature masterwork of American dance, “Esplanade”. Set to the music of Bach’s Violin Concert No.2, this one-of-a kind, fearlessly experimental performance transforms the simplicity of ordinary actions such as walking, running, and skipping into an elaborate contemporary piece, capturing the true essence of modern dance. The full program will include two additional works to be announced. Stars of Tomorrow Classical Repertoire Showcase Presented by Ballet Etudes of South Florida

An exciting sampling of classical ballet, including excerpts from Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia La Fille Mal Gardee and the premiere of Prince of Igor, performed by the up-and-coming Stars of Tomorrow who comprise Ballet Etudes of South Florida's youth company. This performance series is sponsored by Miami-Dade County's YAM (Youth Arts Miami) Grant.
