Celestial Dance of India Presented by Sacred Vedic Arts

The Celestial Dance of India: a Night of Odissi Classical Dance featuring Rudrakshya Foundation Odissi, a traditional dance from from Odiya, India is renowned as some of the finest in the world due to its unbroken connection to ancient spiritual art. For millenia dancers protrayed epic poems and stories in temples. In recent times, these temple arts have become available to the public mesmerizing and inspiring the masses. For this event, Rudrakshya Foundation are traveling to Miami specifically from India. They will perform scenes from the classic Indian poem Gita Govinda composed by Sri Jayadeva Goswami in the 1100s. Sacred Vedic Arts will also exhibit famed spiritual artist Srimati Syamarani Dasi's line drawings and paintings to further illustrate the tales told by the dance. Rudrakshya foundation is recognized in India and across the globe as one of the finest dance troupes of Indian classical dance. Hailing from the eastern coastal region of Odisha India, their lifetime of dedicated devotional storytelling and rigorous practice is woven into a beautiful tapestry of movement aimed as transforming and uplifting the hearts of the audience. Sacred Vedic Arts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit supporting the arts, education, and community service, operating completely on donations founded by visionary artist and master of bhakti yoga, Srimati Syamarani didi . Bailaora Soy will delight with pure Flamenco music and dance, in a range of rhythms and styles that will take you through dramatic, soulful, joyous, sensual and passionate moods with the gorpgeous vocals, electrifying footwork, and all of the grace and beauty that has made Flamenco an inspiration to writers, poets musicians, composers, choreographers, painters, sculptors and audiences for centuries.

Alfonso Losa & Patricia Guerrero: Alter Ego Presented by Adrienne Arsht Center

Virtuoso performers Patricia Guerrero and Alfonso Losa throw away the rule book to explore personal connection. Guerrero draws geometric figures with her dance. She dismantles her movements and re-creates them. Losa develops new schemes without breaking the mold, builds without deconstructing and stays true to his roots. Alter Ego is flamenco stripped bare. It is pure passion, visceral movement and unfettered exploration.

Eva Yerbabuena: Yerbagüena (oscuro brillante) Presented by Adrienne Arsht Center

Born in Frankfurt and raised in Ogíjares, a small town in Granada, Eva Yerbabuena is considered “a visionary and masterful dancer” (The Guardian) who is “touched by greatness” (The Times) and embodies “the type of once-in-a-generation artist” (The Independent). Her work draws on the teachings of artists such as Enrique “El Canastero,” Angustillas “La Mona,” Mariquilla, Mario Maya and Juan García, who taught her choreography and movement in Cuba. In 2001, Yerbabuena was invited by Pina Bausch to dance in Wuppertal, Germany with Mikhail Baryshnikov, Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Ana Laguna. In 1998, at only 28 years old, Yerbabuena created her own company. Since then, she has choreographed a dozen shows and been recognized around the world.
