Picnic de Libros is a bilingual, family day program featuring storytelling, theatre, music, arts and crafts, dance, and picnic baskets full of books, free to keep. The event is free and its main goal is to expose kids to the richness and variety of the cultural traditions in our diverse community. These gatherings will tickle children’s curiosity while using the power of stories to bring people together, promoting literacy, and nurturing the next generation of engaged world citizens. We want to encourage kids to read and develop a passion for books and literature. Culminating each day, we will serve a special picnic with blankets on the lawn and baskets full of books, in both Spanish and English, to take home. Picnic de Libros is produced by the Koubek Center and Fundacion Cuatrogatos, with the support of Miami Book Fair.

A New Brain Music and Lyrics by William Finn Book by William Finn and James Lapine Composer Gordon Schwinn is reluctantly writing a song for the star of a children’s TV show when he collapses. Supported by his lover, mother, best friend, and a manic medical team, Gordon confronts what appears to be a life-threatening illness while haunted by unfinished work and the specter of Mr. Bungee – the star of the children’s program. This moving, relatable, and comical musical by the Tony award-winning team of William Finn and James Lapine offers a touching examination of the ephemeral nature of life and the healing powers of art.

A darkly comic fable of brotherly love and family identity is Suzan-Lori Parks' latest riff on the way we are defined by history. The play tells the story of Lincoln and Booth, two brothers whose names were given to them as a joke, foretelling a lifetime of sibling rivalry and resentment. Haunted by the past, the brothers are forced to confront the shattering reality of their future.

The Bald Soprano was the first work of Eugene Ionesco, father of the Theater of the Absurd, and it has been interpreted as a satirical attack against social stereotypes and the bourgeois family of the time. By creating an atmosphere where the characters are physically close but cannot communicate effectively, the main theme is clear, the words, instead of revealing and facilitating communication, obscure and cloud it; and man is a misunderstood and incomprehensible being. This play will be presented in Spanish with simulcast English translation provided through an audio receiver.

“Insectos y Bicharracos” is a musical theater play inspired by the album of the same name produced by Rita Rosa Ruesga. The singer-songwriter, accompanied by her band of local musicians, will tell a story full of Caribbean rhythms and colorful bicharracos, with costume and set design by Celia Ledón, artistic direction by Eddy Díaz Souza, and general production by FUNDarte. In the plot, Rosa has baked a delicious tartlet to celebrate with her friends cleaning the patio. Musicians and insects have been invited to the party, but… the tart has disappeared. The investigation will serve to listen to (and also dance to) a selection of songs that can give clues to finding the culprit. Do you dare to help find it? “Insectos y Bicharracos” is presented as part of The ZunZún Children's Fest, a FUNDarte series that annually celebrates with families and younger audiences a varied program of bilingual projects that brings together local and visiting artists. The festival seeks to promote the appreciation of universal culture and the values ​​of "Hispanidad".

Playwright Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this hilarious, hopeful and achingly human new play, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives.

Mlima is a magnificent elephant trapped by the underground international ivory market. As he follows a trail littered by a history of greed, Mlima takes us on a journey through memory, fear, tradition and the penumbra between want and need. From Lynn Nottage (MJ the Musical), the two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Sweat and Ruined, Mlima’s Tale is a captivating and haunting fable come to life. This multimedia production features movement direction by Miami City Ballet choreographer Herman Payne and film curation by Delavega. Note: This production includes mature content.

Miami Light Project presents the world premiere of "F.Punk Junkies", a dance theater performance written and directed by award-winning playwright Teo Castellanos with dramaturgy by Dr. Keshia Abraham and choreography by Michelle Grant-Murray and Augusto Soledade, at The Light Box at Goldman Warehouse, October 3-8, 2022. "F.Punk Junkies" is an Afropunk-inspired theatrical work that digs deeply into our collective ancestral roots. Honoring the elders in the artist community and cultivating the next generation of artists in the process, "F.Punk Junkies" disrupts traditional ways of both creating and experiencing art.

The director of psychiatric pavilion 305 once again prepares her patients to participate in a cultural program that allows them to present their show outside of the confines of the hospital as part of their therapy. The patients however end up losing control as they bring to life the mythical characters of French comedian Jean-Baptiste Poquelin "Moliere". Their story unravels into a hilarious display of histrionics and alienation with 13 characters trapped in a rehab facility that shows the vulnerability and imperfection of individuals with a heavy dose of humor and innocence. DELIRIUM closes the successful trilogy that began with Pavillion 305 (2015), followed by Shakespeare in Madness (2019); produced by the Adriana Barraza Veritatem Theater. DELIRIUM is presented this time by Conecta Miami Arts as part of its annual program to work with young Hispanic artists, local musicians, and guest actors, in collaboration with AB Veritatem Theatre. As a part of our “Dans le avant-garde” series, “Funnyhouse of a Negro” by Adrienne Kennedy, directed by Zaylin Yates, is a poetic and symbolic investigation into one woman’s mind before her death. Sarah has created four different personas as a way to grapple with her own self-hatred: Queen Victoria, the Duchess of Hapsburg, Jesus, and Patrice Lumumba. With these four characters at her side, Sarah tries to make sense of her conception (from rape), her life without her parents, and the creeping insanity that she feels all around her. Runtime: Approximately 1hr. 10mins. (No intermission) Following the show, on October 23, we will host “Between Two Worlds,” a symposium on colorism and self-identity. This symposium will focus on mental and emotional healing for biracial men and women. Additionally, tackling topics on how the community can seek emotional healing. Learning tools to practice self-love and embracing all the things that define their humanity. Mental illness, self-hate, and the need to be socially accepted are issues that currently plague the Black and BIPOC communities. Avoiding these conversations increases the number of suicide attempts we experience in Miami Dade County. This symposium will feature a panel of special guests and focus on mental and emotional healing for black/brown men and women. Mental illness, self-hate, and the need to be socially accepted are issues that currently plague the black community, and it is time to have a conversation. Admission to the symposium will be free.
