Papá Cuatro Presented by Miami New Drama

An epic musical journey and cultural celebration. Papá Cuatro is a world-premiere musical that tells an extraordinary immigrant tale of a generation of Venezuelan musicians who were forced to leave their country in hopes of a better future, taking with them centuries of traditions and the joyous sound of an iconic Latin American string instrument: El Cuatro. Immerse yourself in this epic journey and cultural celebration with these world-class international artists that have come to start anew and share their real-life stories with you in a setting that exists somewhere between a musical, a documentary, and a house party. Conceived by Venezuelan-Canadian director Juan Souki (Miami New Drama’s Viva la Parranda), and with original music by singer-songwriter, Mariaca Semprún (Piaf, La Lupe, Latin Grammy 2020); cuatro player, Miguel Siso (Latin Grammy 2018); harpist, Eduardo Betancourt (Latin Grammy 2010); bandola player, Mafer Bandola (LADAMA); and drummer, Adolfo Herrera.

Fade Presented by GableStage

A witty dramatic comedy about class, integrity, and culture. Lucia is understandably nervous. It’s day one at her first TV writing job. As a Hispanic novelist, she may actually be the “diversity hire” she’s heard whispers about. Uncertain whether she can make a place for herself in cutthroat Hollywood, she feels less alone when she meets Abel, the Latino janitor. They form a bond and share stories, but it turns out that their friendship is not what Abel expects.

Rubenology Presented by GableStage

The legendary Ruben Rabasa (who Andy Garcia called "La Gloria de Cuba") takes the wheel of his own one person show to tell us about the wild ride of his life - all 83 years of it and counting. Rabasa takes us from Cuba to the United States; from santeros to his saving grace, his mom. It's funny and silly and full of heart, just like Rabasa himself, who has a thing or two to teach us - his Rubenology - about being an actor, a lover, a friend, a son, a Cuban-American and an American. A WORLD PREMIERE!

Kisses Through the Glass by Nilo Cruz Presented by Arca Images

A new work by Pulitzer Prize-winning Cuban-American playwright Nilo Cruz. In "Kisses Through the Glass," two people are drawn together, first by an unknown infirmity and then by love, as they try to find a better place for themselves. The time is the future or now, in a world that seems to be destroying itself. Anabella is the actress trying to keep the theatre alive by remembering the last play she was in before the theatres closed due to a pandemic. Trevor is the truck driver who no longer has a sense of direction after delivering his last cargo. The lives of these two strangers are not only changed forever by the road but also by their spiritual journey to an unknown destination.

36th International Hispanic Theatre Festival Of Miami: Alacrán o La Ceremonia

A story of a love triangle in the heart of sordid Spanish taverns. Scorpion or The Ceremony emerges from the gypsy splendor that allows its history to bleed out amidst obscenities, the zambra dance, and thorns. This scoundrel gathers with himself each night, thrusts himself into the performance with a flamenco cry, sprinkles it with courage, and begins his interpretation of 'La Cangrejo', the woman who was the love of his life and is no longer here.
