The Cuban Vote Presented by Miami New Drama

The heir apparent to a Miami political dynasty, Carolina Clarens, is the seemingly perfect candidate to be the next mayor. The only problem is…nobody likes her. Why? She’s an arrogantly honest candidate whose scorched earth style rattles the city’s political power players. She is tanking in the polls. Enter Alex, the slick D.C. political consultant tasked with smoothing out her edges and getting her the unpredictable Cuban Vote. Based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, The Cuban Vote draws you into the middle of Carolina and Alex’s quest for the Miami Mayorship…and each other. A romantic political comedy that can only happen in Miami, turns into tremendo arroz con mango and all for the coveted Cuban vote. They say all is fair in love and war, but nothing is fair in love and politics. A world-premiere play by Carmen Pelaez (Miami New Drama’s Fake and 7 Deadly Sins), directed by Loretta Greco (New York premieres of The Story, Lackawanna Blues, Two Sisters and a Piano – The Public/NYSF).

Marguerite Presented by Conecta Miami Arts

Shakespeare is a White Supremacist Play Review

Written by Kerren Dieuveille

Before I begin this article I would like to start by telling a bit about myself. I am an African-American young adult woman with Caribbean roots. This play that I will be reviewing focuses on topics of race, sexuality, and age in a market where not fitting a particular role is a detriment to your livelihood. I wish to handle the topics presented with the seriousness with which it was presented to me. To do so I feel it is important for readers to know through what lens I saw the play.
