Carmen by Bizet Presented by The Moss Center and Miami Lyric Opera

Carmen, opera in four acts, by French composer Georges Bizet with libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on the story by Prosper Mérimée. The opera was first performed by the Opéra-Comique in Paris on 3 March 1875, where its breaking of conventions shocked and scandalized its first audiences. The story is set in Seville, Spain, around 1830, and concerns the eponymous Carmen, a beautiful Gipsy with a fiery temper. Free with her love, she woos the corporal Don José, an inexperienced soldier. Their relationship leads to his rejection of his former love, mutiny against his superior and joining a gang of smugglers. His jealousy when she turns from him to the bullfighter Escamillo leads him to murder Carmen.

Where or When? Presented by Lost Girls Theatre

Liv and Will are living the “happily ever after.” Or so they thought until they met Tess. Once the time agents showed up…well, there’s “it’s complicated...” and “it’s… complicated…” 2022. An archivist is cataloguing the effects of an estate dating back to the Gilded Age. As he delves into the family history, he finds himself drawn to a young woman in 1937 who reminds him of his partner. 1937. A young socialite living at the estate finds herself drawn to the world of the racy nightclub, La Paloma. There, she falls in love with a woman seemingly from another time, a more progressive time. The more they each learn about one another, the more the time periods collide until they begin to step back and forth into one another’s times and places. That’s when agents from the far future step in…to straighten things out? Or eliminate the paradox entirely? Some things that happened for the first time seem to be happening again. But who will end up with whom? And where or when? Join Lost Girls Theatre and the Incomparable Radio Theatre as we bring you a live radio play with time travel, romance, and Miami's forgotten LGBTQ history.

Revolutions Per Minute: A Night of One Acts Presented by Art ON / MAS Rep

Art On in conjunction with MAS Rep presents RPM: A Night of One Acts. Written by Miami native playwright Ozzie Quintana, the plays follow two stories of machismo and feminism spurring from both Cuban and Miami history. Almost a hundred years apart in time, but timeless in their content. Of Kings, which first premiered in 2018, throws you into the high risk street racing scene of the 1990s told through the local ones of characters that are all too familiar. A Woman in Battle, the second one act and Quintana's most recent play, defines the different interpretations of freedom using the stories of three woman in a Havana prison during the first Cuban Revolution of 1868. These shows beautifully visualize the Cuban culture and its prominence. Both winners of multiple awards at the Thespians One Acts Festival including Best Original Work. RPM: A Night of One Acts is showing from July 21-24th in the MAS Black Box at Miami Arts Studio 6-12 @ Zelda Glazer.
