Artistry in Rhythm (AIR) is a synthesized historical, cultural, and philosophical experience that explores dance, music, visual arts, and the aesthetic of a global narrative that grounds and expands the innovative practices of art making.

Ballet Flamenco La Rosa, an international Flamenco company based in Miami, and made up of musicians from Spain, the U.S. and Latin America, is pleased to announce a performance of Alma Flamenca at The Miami Beach Bandshell, Sunday, May 7, 2023 at 7:00 pm. This spellbinding production features the earthy power of Flamenco dance at its best. With its spectacular footwork, precise athleticism and vibrant energy, Flamenco is at once sensual and spiritual, raw and refined, and filled with both restrained passion and electrifying release, incorporating live music, original choreography and improvisation by exceptional Flamenco artists. The music, created and arranged by musicians brought directly from Spain creates an interchange with choreography and spontaneous improvisation, to feature Flamenco’s vast potential to inspire, empower and engage, in a range of rhythms and styles that will take audiences through dramatic, soulful, joyous, sensual and passionate moods with mesmerizing vocals, electrifying footwork, and all of the grace and beauty that has made Flamenco so loved by audiences throughout the world. The excitement and beauty that is authentic Flamenco will have you screaming “ole” and clapping with the rhythms.

Birds of Paradise honors and celebrates the enduring nature of queer and marginalized people to shape themselves into something that is desirable, vulnerable, fierce and reborn. This will be the third iteration of this series by Miami-based choreographer Pioneer Winter, who continues exploration of beauty and virtuosity outside the mainstream. Mother May I- is a dance and discussion addressing maternal health outcomes. It seeks to use dance to give voice and presence to the importance of positive maternal health outcomes for all women. While highlighting the disparities that exist resulting in black women being 3 times more likely to die as a result of pregnancy and birth related issues.

Meadow, a dance event tribute to composer Thomas Meadowcroft featuring “ABRACADABRA” and it’s mirage compliment, “arbadacarba”. Dance is a physical symbolic language of awe woven in the language of light.

La Fille Mal Gardée” celebrates the pastoral life of 18th Century France – where love triumphed wealth. A fun comedic ballet with beautiful sets, costumes, and Cuban ballet stars – the mother of a precocious girl named Lise keeps her at home in hopes she’ll marry the son of a wealthy businessman. But stubborn Lise is in love with Colas – a boy with very little. Choreographed by Jean Dauberval, the ballet premiered at the Grand Theatre de Bordeaux in 1789 – two weeks before the French Revolution. It is a landmark of modern ballet repertory – having lived through many revivals, title changes, and six scores. The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami continues to recognize the work, dedication, and cultural legacy of dance in our community by prominent teachers and choreographers of our city – honoring them with the “Artistic Achievement Award”. At this performance, it will be presented to former Cuban ballerina and founder/director of the Balletique Dance School of Miami, Mrs. Rosa Aloma.

Join us for the Armour Dance Theatre annual Spring Concert. Performances feature students from ADT’s advanced levels in ballet, tap, Flamenco, contemporary, and hip hop. ADT alumni, now with professional companies will perform as guest artists. This year we have the honor and privilege to perform “Battlefield”, an iconic work from Robert Battle, Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. This year’s performance will be held on Saturday, April 1st, at 7 PM and Sunday, April 2nd, at 2 PM at New World School of the Arts. Tickets are $20 each for general admission.
