Iconic Limón Dance Company Joins Dance Now! Miami Onstage

What happens when one of New York's iconic Modern Dance ensembles, the Limón Dance Company, joins forces with one of Florida's leading contemporary groups, Dance NOW! Miami? A powerful evening that will make local dance lovers swoon! The two companies will share the stage for Program III of Dance NOW's season on Saturday, May 14, at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. The program will include a collaboration between the two groups, along with pieces from each separately.

En el Abismo Presented by Ballet Flamenco La Rosa

Ballet Flamenco La Rosa (https://balletflamencolarosa.com/) announces the World Premiere performance of En el Abismo, an original ‘flamenco ballet’ inspired by Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. The work was created and choregraphed by world-renowned master teacher, choreographer, soloist and BFLR Artistic Director Ilisa Rosal in collaboration with twenty dancers and musicians, including six top artists directly from Spain. World renowned musicians will create and perform original vocals and lyrics for the work. The story and characters expressed by the music and dance will come alive in a new and breathtaking way, adding another layer to this iconic work.

Brigid Baker Wholeproject presents Numinous Land, a dance event, and third section in a series, Return of the Bird Tribes. Numinous Land speaks of stewardship of the Earth and of regaining the dignity of materiality lost in a campaign to transcend nature- to conquer, to seperate ourselves, and to be mistaken about our place in the order of things. Land is grounding, is ground, is the temporal aspect of the invisible and reflects all creation.

Jewels has long been described as a perfect night at the theater. Inspired by a visit to famed jewelers Van Cleef and Arpels, Balanchine created three unique mini-ballets that sweep you away to far-away times and cultures. Each distinctive ‘jewel’ enhances and complements the others, and the dancers shine like brilliant bursts of light. To see these three exquisite ballets in one evening is an unforgettable experience.

2022 Artistry In Rhythm (AIR) Dance Conference UPCLOSE: EMERGING LEGACIES, DANCE ETHNOGRAPHY, AND INNOVATION The 2022 Artistry in Rhythm (A.I.R.) Dance Conference is a dance symposium centered on intergenerational learning and mentorship. Its goal is creating environments that foster artistic development and personal growth through the creative practice of dance. This year’s UPCLOSE theme bridges the gaps between undergraduate, graduate, and professional artistry through innovation, rigor, abundance, and longevity. Organized by MDC Kendall Campus’ Performing Arts and Industries Department, and Jubilation Dance Ensemble, this annual event offers a unique immersion into the world of socially-committed contemporary dance, an experience and celebration of the transformative and restorative power of expressive movement. Join master dance classes and conversations with the established, nationally recognized choreographers and teachers. Experience the power of community and coalition in movement through a rigorous curriculum of technical training. Find yourself at the crossroads of change-making and embodied creativity. This years' performances honors legendary dancers and choreographers whose impact continues to evolve and shift the field of dance Dr. Lorenzo "Rennie" Harris and Dyane Harvey - Salaam. A.I.R. Ancestral Footprints Honoree: will pay homage to the life and legacy of Eleo Pomare.

Flamenco Sephardit IX Presented by Flamenco Sephardit

Experience the passion of pure Flamenco mixed with the Jewish Ladino traditions of Spain. Featuring a 9 member cast of international opera stars, guitarists, flamenco masters, and distinguished classical musicians, Flamenco Sephardit promises audiences an emotional and transcendent experience. The show has delighted thousands since premiering in Miami Beach 9 years ago. The show explores the connection between Ladino and Flamenco music, two distinct cultures born in Spain. The message of Flamenco Sephardit has always been to bring people of diverse cultures and religions together--to remind us that we all have similar origins, and to live together in peace. This year the Producers are excited to welcome guitar sensation Adam Del Monte and Flamenco dancer Natalia Novela to the cast, and to welcome back international opera stars Audrey Babcock, Nelson Martinez, and Flamenco all-stars Paco and Celia Fonta, Jose Moreno, and classical musicians Chava Appiah and Natalie Lee.

Coppelia Presented by Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida

COPPELIA Arts Ballet will bring its own version of "Coppelia" in March of 2022 with music by Leo Delibes and choreography by Vladimir Issaev based on such of Arthur Saint-Leon. Coppelia is a timeless ballet, favorite of dancers and audiences alike about the love story of a young girl Swanilda and her boyfriend Frantz. They believe a doll named “Coppelia” is a real girl and Frantz starts flirting with the adorable puppet. Captivated at the sight of Dr. Coppelius's new life-size doll, Frantz sneaks into the mad inventor’s workshop, and confusion begins leading into a delightful and lovely comedy.

Maya Billig - Gate Closes at 3:05 Presented by Miami Light Project

Join Miami Light Project and Maya Billig for a new dance theater work that transforms The Light Box into a post-apocalyptic speakeasy on February 4-5! Through contemporary movement and original live instrumental elements blended with electronic sounds, audiences are invited to lounge, strap-in, and take flight. The evening is composed of weaving narratives and electric encounters threaded together by notes of surrealism, outer space, the roaring 20’s, and of course, Miami.
